Junior Program

Preamble

The Junior program is provided to encourage young players to learn and enjoy golf in a safe and friendly environment. Juniors are the future of the club and every opportunity is taken to make membership for both girls and boys attractive and financially reasonable.

Pathways and Programs

The diagram below illustrates a suggested pathway to membership.  Age and experience is only a guide and it is acknowledged that there will be exceptions.

Sunday Morning Junior Golf

One of our qualified Golf Professionals delivers a weekly one-hour group lesson either on the driving range or at the short game practice facility that is open to both Members and non-Members.  The session starts at 9.30am and costs $15 per child.  All levels of golfers under the age of 18 are welcome.

Girls Club and Boys Club Program

Royal Perth Golf Club has a separate weekly Girls  and Boys Program that is held during school terms on Tuesday afternoons for girls and Thursday afternoon for boys.  The sessions are designed to provide an opportunity to play in a less intimidating environment and is open to both Members and non-Members.  Registration is on a term-by-term basis with sessions held either on the practice range or at the short game practice facility.

Current charges are $125 per term (includes MYGolf registration and uniform for the initial term).  There is no charge for Members.

Both the Sunday Morning and Girls/Boys Club programs form a great pathway to membership at Royal Perth Golf Club.

Please note that due to Liquor Licensing regulations, non-Members and their parents/guardians are not permitted to use the Clubhouse facilities unless they have been invited and signed in by a Member with those privileges.

Junior and Restricted Junior Membership Applications

A person applying for Junior membership of the club must be under the age of 18 (Constitution Clause 14).

If the applicant already has a Golflink handicap and has sufficient age and competition experience they may be recommended for election as a Junior member.  The Golf Manager will then inform the relevant Handicapper of the Golflink number and previous Home club so that required changes can be made.

All other applicants will be required to attend an assessment and range/rules test, to be conducted by the Club Professional.

An applicant may then be recommended for either Restricted Junior or Junior Membership, or be assessed as not yet ready for membership.  An applicant requiring further skills development may be directed to attend Sunday clinics or to attend further coaching sessions until assessed as being ready to play on the course.

Once the application forms have been completed the applicant will be invited to an interview at the Club with the Men?s or Women?s Vice Captain, the Junior Coordinator, and the Golf Manager.

Restricted Junior Members are only permitted on the course after 3.30pm each day (subject to availability) and in the Sunday morning Junior Competition if they hold a handicap.  Restricted Junior Members must be accompanied by an adult member whilst on course.

Parents or guardians of Restricted Junior Members are invited to take up Restricted Clubhouse Membership for a nominal fee.  As neither Junior nor Restricted Junior Members are permitted to invite guests to the Club, this category allows parents or guardians to accompany their child on the course and in the Clubhouse.  It does not permit the parent/guardian to play golf though.

Junior Members have full course privileges and there is currently no nomination fee to become a Junior or Restricted Junior Member.

Transitional Junior/Youth Membership

In the year that a Junior Member turns 18, they will be admitted to the Transitional Junior Membership category until the year they turn 30.  Transitional Junior membership provides the same playing rights as Junior and Ordinary Members with annual subscriptions subsidised based on age throughout this period.

Minimum house spend and any redevelopment levies are not applied until the year the Member turns 25.

From time to time, the Club also offers the ability for Youth (18-29 year olds) Members to join the Club.  This category carries the same annual subscriptions to the Transitional Junior category with a reduced nomination fee (currently 20%) however playing rights are slightly limited and Youth Members are not waitlisted for full membership until the year they turn 30.

This is a great category for late starters to golf however joining before the age of 18 provides many more benefits to the individual.  For more information about Youth and Junior Membership, please email membership@rpgc.com.au.
