Junior Pennant Squad – Rules Session
Published on 9th January 2020 in Juniors HomeA rules session for all Junior Pennant Squad participants will take place on Friday 17 January at 4:00pm.
In preparation for the upcoming Junior Pennant season, please see below for some key matchplay rules;
1. You may be able to practice on the course on the day of a match. Before doing so it is important to check with Golf WA that it is allowable for that day.
2. You must not touch your opponent’s ball in play, unless you are helping to search for it. Do not mark an opponent’s ball on the putting green, unless they ask you to.
3. You can concede a hole at any time during its play but you cannot then change your mind. You may putt out after receiving a concession, but only if you will not be holding up play.
4. Incorrect information. If you give your opponent wrong information about your score you must correct it before they make their next stroke, or you will be given a general penalty (lose the hole). The reverse is true if they give you wrong information.
5. Order of Play. If your opponent plays out of turn you may let their stroke stand, or require that they cancel the stroke and play again in the correct order. There is no penalty attached to playing out of order. In junior pennants it is better to let the stroke stand.
6. After a stroke your ball hits your opponent, or their equipment. You must play the ball as it lies.
7. Putt from on the putting green hits a ball at rest on the putting green. There is no penalty in match play, the other ball must be replaced and your ball played from where it came to rest.
8. Asking for and giving advice. If a third party gives unsolicited advice no penalty is incurred, but you must request that they do not do so again. Should it happen again you may be given a general penalty (loss of hole) for effectively having two caddies.
9. Ignoring an opponent’s breach of Rule. In match play, you do not have to call a penalty on your opponent if you witness a breach of Rule by them however you cannot agree to ignore a rule. If you agree to ignore a rule, you can both be disqualified. This means your match result will not count
10. If you are unsure of a Rule or procedure try and resolve it with your opponent immediately. If you cannot agree, and the referee is not nearby, you must notify your opponent that you are making a claim, agree the facts and ask the referee for a ruling as soon as you are able to speak to him/her.
